BIO
From the unpredictable origins of the forboding urban sprawl of Melbourne, a large city located on the southern shores of Australia, comes the newest addition to the ever growing list of extreme metal acts emerging from the Southern Land. A five piece aural assault of death metal fury, AUGUR have begun redefining the popular concept of heavy metal with their unique injections of progressive complexity and gut-splitting menace, and since their inception as a complete performing act in late 2006, have performed alongside some of Melbourne's most extreme and respected bands at some of the best venues Melbourne has to offer. Augur are a fairly new addition to the Melbourne death metal scene; combining heavy, technical guitars and brutal drumming and laden with deep, guttural, growling vocals. Their style is one whose inspirations lie in an eclectic array of genres, but primarily the more severe brands of death metal, into which direction the band has been pulled ever further as the intensity and ability of each member developes. With a solid line-up and a diverse assortment of material, they are set to continue their assault of the local live scene before the recording of their first full length release in late 2007. Origins.. Augur, then un-named, had its musical beginnings in late 2003 when guitarist Ben Graham and bassist Ross Kidson began writing material. After a short period with the now-Be'lakor drummer Jimmy Vanden Broeck, Augur recruited now permanent current percussive prodigy Graeme Brown and second guitarist Karl Easey. Augur spent much of 2006 searching for a vocalist who could step up to the demanding task set by the band, a position filled in late 2006 by Gareth Sansom (Ex-Fouldearth). Wasting no time, Augur had unleashed its signature mix of powerful and confronting metal onto the live scene within a month of completing the lineup. Precious little can cease the tide of progression.. as the great beast lumbers on.. |
